Open-Source Surgical Simulators for Global Neurosurgery

๐Ÿ’ก What is Spineforge?

Spineforge is a growing collection of open-source, 3D-printed surgical training models designed by Dr. Bahadฤฑr Akbulut (Ege University, Turkey), tailored to the needs of neurosurgical residentsโ€”particularly in resource-limited settings.

Our models are validated in prospective studies, ultra-low-cost, reusable, and easy to reproduce using standard FDM printers.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Featured Training Models

1. Lumbar Pedicle Screw Training Model

  • Fluoroscopy-compatible (Barium Sulfate enhanced)
  • Per-session cost: $1.61
  • Used in structured resident training with proven performance improvement

๐ŸŒ Mission & Vision

We believe affordable simulation should be a global standardโ€”not a luxury.
Spineforge is committed to:

  • Empowering residents with hands-on skills early in their training
  • Democratizing access to safe, reproducible training tools
  • Enabling local manufacturing via readily available materials

๐Ÿค Collaborate with Us

We are currently looking for partners, including:

  • FIENS & global neurosurgical bootcamps
  • Institutions with limited access to cadavers or commercial simulators
  • Educators interested in expanding the open-source training ecosystem
